On 18th Street between Utah Street and San Bruno Avenue, there's an elegant, steel pedestrian overpass you walk through to get from Potrero Hill, over Highway 101, to the Mission District.

Walking through it today, I encountered a man sitting in a chair holding up a huge sign displayed to the screaming traffic below. He saw me approaching and shifted nervously.

I walked past and looked at the back of the sign. The day's bright light illuminated it enough for me to see what it said on the side facing the highway. It said JESUS OR HELL.

I continued on, bemused, and within about 10 seconds found myself walking through a thick swarm of about 10,000 bees. My journey through the inferno was calm and unscathed.
